Three Kids In The Spotlight Kids In The Spotlight (KITS) short films have been accepted into the Micheaux Film
Festival, which celebrates BIPOC filmmakers and showcases diverse representation and
gender/identity parity, named in honor of Oscar Micheaux.
The festival takes place July 11-17 at Regal Cinemas L.A. Live Regal Cinemas L.A. Live. Virtual screenings are also
Burnt Feathers, Broken Wings (2019), a documentary directed by Cady McClain Cady McClain, features
four young girls in the foster care system who are on a mission to shatter stereotypes and
overcome their past. The film was written by and stars Aneles M. Aneles M., Madison G. Madison G., Katherine Katherine
B., Jaqueline H. Jaqueline H. and Jalynn S Jalynn S.
Exemplary (2019), set in the Civil Rights era, follows a group of young Black women who
band together to escape an evil villain trying to silence their movement. The film was
directed by Grant Housley Grant Housley and written by Alaiya K. Alaiya K., Noel D. Noel D., Aliah W. Aliah W., Landren G. Landren G., and
Asia J.
Parallel (2019) explores the dichotomy between two students’ sexual assaults within the
school system, and how the contrasting reactions to them affect not just themselves but the
safety of those around them. Directed by David Mahmoudieh David Mahmoudieh and written by Ruth A. Ruth A., BaiInga H. Inga H., Santiago C. Santiago C., Danie G. Danie G., and Nelcit L. Nelcit L., the film includes a cameo by Corey
Feldman Feldman.
The three films will screen at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 16.
Emmy-winning filmmakers Noel Braham Noel Braham and Courtney L. Branch Courtney L. Branch established the
Micheaux Film Festival Micheaux Film Festival in 2018 to offer a cutting-edge and fresh take on the traditional
festival experience and bring independent creatives together to curate an environment for
artists to build sincere relationships with future collaborators in the television, film, media,
and digital space.
