Alumni Attend Premiere and Experience a Glimpse into their Bright Futures

Thanks to a very special gifting, KITS was able to take eight alumni to the world premiere of Sony Animation’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” at the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood.

Surrounded by the film’s stars – including Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, and Nic Novick (a fellow Hollywood Foreign Press Association Grantee from Easterseals, who voices a character in the film as well) – our filmmakers were left inspired and hopeful.

With themes of familial belonging, unconditional love, and destiny, Across the Spider-Verse has a ton of heart in this second installment in the story of Miles Morales. It is no wonder the first installment, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” left one alumnus eager to play Miles Morales in a live-action version of the film.

At the premiere, KITS filmmakers were able to network with actors like Aldis Hodge (Black Adam, Leverage: Redemption), comedian Gabriel Iglesias, peers from the Pan African Film Festival and Zach King Studios, and voice actors from the film, like Michael Scott.

This animated feat will continue to serve as ingenuity for our alumni as they work towards their own filmmaking goals. An alumnus stated this was a preview for a world premiere where he would be walking the red carpet to talk about his role in the film.

Opportunities like this continue to serve as more than a fun outing, but a catalyst for the dreams our creative filmmakers have and a reminder that their dreams are within reach.
