Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

In an unprecedented show of support the
Academy Museum of Motion Pictures
published an article in their recent
newsletter about the April 27th launch of
Kids in the Spotlight’s nationwide
screenwriting competition for foster youth.
The inaugural contest marks the first time
KITS will provide its unique program to
foster youth outside of the region

For more than a decade Kids in the Spotlight has helped scores of kids across Southern
California overcome the trauma of life in the foster care system.

The brief, but informative article by the Academy Museum speaks volumes about KITS’s
potential impact on the future of the motion picture industry. It also includes a link to a
complimentary screening of one of the 70+ films produced by foster kids participating in the
KITS program. (

Located in the historic Saban Building on LA’s Miracle Mile, the Academy Museum will be the first dedicated to “celebrating the arts and science of movies,” and is slated to open December 14, 2020. Designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architect Renzo Piano, the beautifully restored and revitalized edifice was formerly the iconic May Company
department store which loomed over the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.

Kids in the Spotlight wishes to express its deepest gratitude to the Academy Museum for its show of support.
